HP LaserJets – Clearing the maintenance count and service message

If the display panel on your HP LaserJet reads ”perform printer maintenance”, ”perform user maintenance”, or anything along those lines it means your printer needs a preventative maintenance kit, which includes a fuser and various rollers. Once you have installed the maintenance kit the message will only go away if you clear the maintenance count. For example the LaserJet 4000 has a 200,000 page maintenance interval. Once you reach 200,000 pages the error message appears and you need to reset the maintenance count to zero to make the message go away.

Reset the maintenance count on an HP LaserJet 8000, 8100, and 8150
The Service Manual indicates you need go into the Configuration Menu and set the SERVICE MESSAGE = to OFF to clear the PERFORM PRINTER MAINTENANCE message. We have found that this does not always work (probably due to different formatter revisions). We recommend the following procedure to manually set the maintenance count to zero.

After installing a maintenance kit, reset the maintenance count to zero by:
1. Enter service mode as described on our entering service mode page.
2. Go to the MAINTCOUNT screen and press + or – to scroll the number to zero (all zeros).
3. Press the Select button to enter the settings into the printers memory (an asterisk will appear next to the zeros).
4. Exit service mode by pressing the GO button.

NOTE: Do not change the MAINTENANCE INTERVAL value, which is another option in service mode. This value is the interval at which a maintenance kit should be installed (350,000 pages on LaserJet 8000, 8100, or 8150 series).

After you install the maintenance kit, you can clear the PERFORM USER MAINTENANCE message by going to the printers control panel Configuration Menu and setting the SERVICE MESSAGE = to OFF. Note: this message will only appear in the Configuration Menu if the PERFORM USER MAINTENANCE message appears.

Reset the maintenance count on an HP LaserJet 4000, 4050, 4100, 5000
”The Short Cut Method”
1. Turn the printer off.
2. Hold down the Item key (minus side of the button) and Value key (minus side).
3. Turn the printer on.
4. Wait for RESET MAINTENANCE COUNT to be displayed and then release both keys.

NOTE: Some versions of the 4000, 4050, 4100, and 5000 will NOT have their maintenance count reset by following the preceding ”short cut” method. This is due to the many different formatter board revisions. If the short cut method doesn’t reset the maintenance count then you will need to go into service mode to manually reset the maintenance count to zero.

Reset the maintenance count on an HP LaserJet 4100MFP, 4101MFP, 4200, 4300, 4250, 4350, 9000

1. Turn the product off.
2. Turn the product on.
3. Press and hold down the checkmark (Select) button while the memory is counting. The memory starts counting at 000MB immediately after you turn the power on.
4. Continue to hold down the checkmark (Select) button until all three LEDs are illuminated.
5. Release the checkmark (Select) button.
6. Press the up arrow (Navigation) button until the message New Maintenance Kit appears on the control panel display.
7. Press the checkmark button once.

(Note: on LaserJets 4200, 4300, 9000 you can hold down the checkmark button as you turn the power on, then wait for the three LEDs to illuminate. On the LaserJets 4250, 4350 series you need to wait until you turn the power on and the memory starts counting before you hold the checkmark button.)

A message New Maintenance will appear in the control panel display and the printer will reset.
Note: HP LaserJets 4V, 4, 4 plus, and 5 do not have a maintenance count to be reset.

HP Blank Screen LED Error Codes

Support details

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) beginning in late-2008.
On startup, you may see a blank screen. If the diagnostic utilities detect a specific problem with hardware components, the fan turns on, but the screen remains blank. To help identify the cause of the problem, various LED lights on the keyboard blink a series of codes.
The diagnostic utilities use the LEDs near the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys to blink a series of error codes. At the end of the series the blinking stops. The pattern of blinks will occur any time you attempt to start the computer until the error is resolved.
Battery power LED blinks

The Battery power LED indicates the condition of the power supply. When starting the computer, or when the computer is in operation, use the chart to identify the power condition.
Battery Power LED Component Tested Error Condition
Battery power LED off, and Caps Lock/Num Lock off Battery or AC Adapter AC adapter not connected or failure

Battery low charge or failure

Battery power LED blinking Battery Insufficient charge on the battery
LEDs near Caps Lock and Number Lock keys blink when starting notebook

The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up.
If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition.
Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help.
Caps Lock/Num Lock LED Component Tested Error Condition
LEDs blink 1 time CPU CPU not functional
LEDs blink 2 times BIOS BIOS corruption failure
LEDs blink 3 times Memory Module error not functional
LEDs blink 4 times Graphics Graphics controller not functional
LEDs blink 5 times System board General system board failure
LEDs blink 6 times BIOS BIOS authentication failure

Ställa av pinkod på Exchange 2007 för iPhone-användare

If you have an iPhone with OS 3.0 or greater and Exchange 2007 it will require you to enable a PIN on your device by default. To disable this you need to…

  1. Open the Exchange Management Console
  2. Expand the Organization Configuration
  3. Click on Client Access
  4. Double click your Activesync Mailbox Policy
  5. Click the Password tab
  6. Uncheck Require password and click OK

If your iPhone is already syncing with Exchange you’ll need to remove the partnership for the setting to take effect.

  1. In the console tree, navigate to Recipient Configuration > Mailbox.
  2. Select a user, and then select Manage Mobile Device from the action pane. * The Manage Mobile Device dialog box will display a list of all devices that are configured for synchronization.
  3. Choose the device, Select Remove mobile device parternship and click Remove.

Note: The Manage Mobile Device link is only available in the action pane for users who’ve established a mobile phone partnership with the Exchange server.

Security tool-removal

Reboot in safe mode
browse to C:Documents and settingsall users application data

There will be a folder in there that has eight numbers as a name (ex 91908431)

Delete this bad boy, empty recycle bin

Reboot normally, delete all left over shortcuts, empty recycle bin again and you are home free.

However, for me, it was found under C:program data (and not documents and settings). I discovered
this by right cliking on Security Tool while I was in safe mode and then going to “open folder
location”. This took me right to its location and I was able to delete it. In fact, I had 5 files
to delete with the 8 digit code. THANKS, it did work!!! I’m back on my computer again without all
the problems of Security Tool.

Tried most things. Nothing worked.
Finally found a % 100 fix.
Start computer in safe mode
Switch off system restore(switch back on afterwards)
Delete all Temp folders C:Documents and settingsAdministratorLocal SettingsTemp
Open up internet explorer>Internet options>Delete browsing history(cookies ect) and delete everything.
Delete all referance to this bug in ‘application data’(look posts before for nav instructions)
Run Malwarebytes

I also had this annoying virus, this is what i did to remove it:

– Write down the 8-digit code, can be found in processes or when you hoover over the security tool icon
– Start up in safe mode (F8)
– Search for code in windows search (make sure to click, search hidden folders)
– It will probably in some application data folder, just remove it
– Profit $$$
